I'm here to tell you that you can do all those things you've always wanted to do and the only permission you need is your own.
It's time to find your voice and start speaking up.
It's time to forget the overnight success myth and make a plan.
This blog is about starting before you feel ready and ignoring the mean voice in your head that tells you you can't follow your heart.
a few things to know about me:
that The Universe works in our favor when we put into it what we want to get out of it.
that sometimes we are more cruel to ourselves than we would ever dream of being to anyone else and it needs to stop.
that everyone holds strong to their beliefs and the best way to communicate with one another is through our actions.
in the currency of priorities and not in the bargaining of excuses.
in focusing on the things that bring us joy and eliminating the things that make us feel bad or drain our enthusiasm for life.
My name is Casey Sibley, and I run Casey D. Sibley Art + Design, a studio specializing in vibrant pattern design for textiles and a lifestyle brand of accessories and home goods in a happy, modern style. My business was started out of a desire to do more of what I wanted in my life (and maybe even make a buck while doing it).
Before I started my business, the idea of pursuing a career centered around my artwork was unfathomable. So I chose a stable, responsible, practical career and quickly realized that something was missing. I believed the starving artist myth, at least until I actually started selling my artwork. That's when my entire worldview changed.
I've been making my happiness a priority ever since.
The truth is, starting a business from scratch can be both very challenging and incredibly rewarding. Probably one of the most challenging aspects of it all is finding the courage, day after day, to keep introducing the world to what I love to do. It's so personal! But I have found that the more I share, the better it gets: my work improves and my list of supporters grows.
I've also felt the weight of wanting to do so many things that it's hard to know where to start sometimes. In response to that feeling, I've been taking a more careful look at how to pursue the things that bring me joy, and discard the things that don't, both in my business and in life.
I'm taking a minimalist approach.
I invite you to follow along with me as I share my experiences in pursuing a business and life that brings me joy, and encourage you to take charge and lead a life by your own design.
To take a leap of faith, before you feel ready, and to repeat the process over and over again until it's not scary anymore.
